Mometasone Furoate monohydrate, the active ingredient in Metaspray Nasal Spray, is an anti-inflammatory corticosteroid. This topical glucocorticosteroid exhibits local anti-inflammatory effects at doses that are not systemically active. It is utilized for relieving nasal symptoms such as congestion, sneezing, and runny nose caused by seasonal or perennial allergies. Furthermore, it is also indicated for the treatment of nasal polyps in adults. This medication belongs to the glucocorticoid class, which includes steroid hormones often prescribed for allergic rhinitis, an inflammation of the nasal passages. These glucocorticoid hormones possess anti-inflammatory properties.

Metaspray is employed for both the treatment and prevention of nasal symptoms arising from seasonal and perennial allergies, including runny nose, sneezing, and itching. It falls under the category of topical steroids and serves to alleviate inflammation (swelling) in the nasal passages.

You should administer this medication precisely as prescribed by your healthcare provider. The application may vary based on individual medical conditions. Therefore, it’s essential to adhere to all instructions provided by your doctor. Do not exceed the recommended dosage or use it for a longer duration than advised by your healthcare professional.

Typically, the recommended dosage of Metaspray is 1 to 2 sprays in each nostril once daily. Your doctor may instruct you to initiate this nasal spray 2 to 4 weeks prior to the onset of allergy season. Follow your doctor's instructions for optimal results.

As a result of switching from a systemic corticosteroid to a topical corticosteroid, some patients may experience withdrawal symptoms such as joint and/or muscle pain, fatigue, and depression. Care should be taken when transitioning patients who have been on systemic corticosteroids for extended periods to topical corticosteroids, particularly in individuals with asthma or other medical conditions.

If the prescribed dosage is influenced by recent systemic steroid therapy, symptoms of hypercorticism such as menstrual irregularities, acneiform lesions, and cushingoid features may manifest. If you observe any of these unwanted effects, gradually discontinue the use of topical corticosteroids. Individuals with weakened immune systems are more vulnerable to infections compared to healthy individuals, and they may encounter chickenpox and measles as side effects, which can also have more severe or even fatal outcomes in nonimmune children or adults taking corticosteroids. Therefore, exercise caution while using this medication and thoroughly discuss your medical history with your doctor.

This medication is contraindicated for patients with hypersensitivity or allergic reactions to the product and its components.

Possible side effects may include sneezing, nasal irritation, and sometimes headache, sore throat, or nosebleeds. It may also lead to blood-tinged mucus/phlegm, unusual nasal bleeding or irritation/pain, and allergic reactions such as itching, rash, swelling, difficulty breathing, and dizziness. If you experience any of these side effects, seek medical attention promptly.

Store this medication upright at room temperature, away from moisture and heat, and keep it out of reach of children and pets.
